Who we are

QuirkIDE is made by [business name and ABN, to be added before launch], an Australian business. In this policy, we and us means that business.

The data Quirk collects

Quirk counts and times how you work so it can help you. It does not keep the text of your code in its profile.

With Let Quirk learn from how you work switched on (the quirk.watching setting), Quirk records on your computer:

• Counts and timings of how you work: pauses, bursts of deleting, writing something and deleting it again, pastes, undo and redo, clicks, file switches, saves, errors, terminal results, time away from the window, typing speed, and the hints you open.
• Each autocomplete or AI suggestion you accept.
• Its estimate of how well you know each of 245 concepts, and which kinds of explanation help you most.
• Style habits, such as a habit carried over from another language.
• Your progress through projects and your gauge result.

Your code stays in your project folders as ordinary files. Quirk reads it to check your steps and to spot pasted code, and keeps none of its text in your profile.

You can turn watching off in Settings. Quirk then gives general help instead of help fitted to you.

Stored on your computer

On your computer. We do not receive it.

Quirk keeps your profile in QuirkIDE's data folders in your Windows user account. QuirkIDE has no account system and no sync today. If we add sync later, it will stay off until you turn it on, and this policy will list what it sends first.

QuirkIDE turns off the usage reporting (telemetry) that its editor core can send. QuirkIDE connects to the internet when you ask it to: to search for and install extensions from the Open VSX registry, to use Git with a remote such as GitHub, or to open a link. Open VSX, GitHub and each extension you install follow their own privacy terms.

See, correct, export or delete

You can read all of it, fix it, take a copy, or delete it with one button.

• What Quirk knows about you shows your whole profile. Tell it when it is wrong, for example I do know loops.
• Export what Quirk knows about you saves your profile as a file.
• Delete everything Quirk knows about you removes it at once.

Run these from the Quirk menu or the command palette (Ctrl + Shift + P). For anything we hold about you, such as a payment record or your place on the launch list, email us and we will reply within 30 days.

The browser workspace

In the free browser version, your progress stays in your browser's own storage, on your device. Lock in mode uses your camera only after you turn it on. Nothing is recorded, and the picture stays on your computer. The first Python step loads Python into your browser over the internet.

This website and the launch list

quirkide.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. Cloudflare hosts the site and handles basic connection data, such as your IP address, to deliver pages and block attacks.

If you join the launch list, our email service, [email service name to be added], stores your email address. We use it to tell you about QuirkIDE. Each email has an unsubscribe link.

Payments and your licence key

Lemon Squeezy sells QuirkIDE for us as the merchant of record. You give your card details to Lemon Squeezy, and they never reach us. We receive your name, email address, country, the amount, your licence key and whether the payment worked. We keep these to provide your subscription, handle refunds and meet tax law. When you enter your licence key, and about once a week after that, QuirkIDE sends the key and a random ID for your computer to Lemon Squeezy to check that your subscription is active. The check carries nothing about your learning, your code or your computer's name.

No selling, ever

We never sell, rent or trade your data.

We never use your data for advertising, and we never give it to anyone to train AI models.

Children

Adults buy QuirkIDE. Children use it with a parent's permission, and their learning profile stays on the family computer.

A parent or guardian must buy QuirkIDE for anyone under 18 and agree to our terms for them. Quirk's data notice asks anyone under 16 to read it with a parent or carer before Quirk starts learning from how they work.

Because the app keeps its profile on the computer and sends none of it to us, we do not collect personal information from children through QuirkIDE. The launch list is for adults 18 and over.

We intend to meet the Australian Privacy Act 1988, the Children's Online Privacy Code that the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner is preparing (due by 10 December 2026), and, in the United States, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which requires a parent's verifiable consent before a service collects personal information from a child under 13. If you think we hold a child's information without a parent's consent, email us and we will delete it.

Changes and complaints

We will date every change to this page. If we plan a change to what Quirk collects, we will show it in QuirkIDE before it takes effect.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, email us first. You can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
